Mbappe double leaves PSG on verge of title (1)

Paris St-Germain are on the verge of a record 11th Ligue 1 title after Kylian Mbappe's double secured victory over struggling Auxerre on Sunday.

Defending champions PSG are six points clear of second-placed Lens - who also have an inferior goal difference - and require just one point from their last two games to guarantee the title.

Top scorer Mbappe netted twice in the opening eight minutes for the visitors.

Lassine Sinayoko responded for Auxerre, who remain in relegation trouble.

The victory means Christophe Galtier's PSG will clinch the title if they avoid defeat at Racing Strasbourg next Saturday.

Mbappe, 24, has scored 40 goals and contributed nine assists in 41 games this season - including 33 goal involvements in 32 Ligue 1 matches.

The France international displayed great footwork as he twisted and turned in the box to create space for the opener, before bending in a sublime first-time strike two minutes later.

PSG, who have won eight of the past 10 Ligue 1 titles, equalled Marseille and Saint-Etienne's all-time record of 10 French titles last season.

Even when they have a bad season they still win the league most times . Same with Bayern Munich , let’s hope Dortmund can pull of one last win

(Video) Mbappe's reaction when Messi refuses to celebrate with PSG ultras after winning the Ligue 1 title

Imagine spending that much money, having Mbappe, Messi and Neymar, and only being 6 points clear of Lens. Joke of a club.

Why even bother celebrating? PSG failing to win a league title is a bigger story. And surely even if you're a PSG fan it must get boring?

The French league title is big news. Imagine if someone decided Man City or Glasgow Celtic winning titles was not important, just because it happens lots of times. We have to pay attention to foreign football also. PSG are a massive name with World class players. Paris is the major city of European culture.

Another record attendance. It's not inclusive, I cannot sit or stand in those stadiums. The refreshments, toilets and access bars me because of my manual wheelchair.
What do you take the knee for again? Oh yeah! Discrimination.
This is why we stay away.

Considering the money spent by PSG they should always win the French league, at a canter I might add. That said the majority of the teams in Ligue 1 are championship standard so not exactly a competitive league and until they win the Champions league all the money invested will have shown little return IMO.

It's so skewed for PSG in their league, yet they still make hard work of winning it. Messi, Neymar, Verrati and Mbappe and they've still lost 6 games. That's a billion pound worth of players alone. I doubt anyone is impressed with them winning the title again, I'd wager Brighton would win that league at a canter. Might lose to PSG twice, but they'd beat the rest. That'd be enough.

      Scotland.

It's been Celtic for about 20 years other than a few Rangers wins here and there. Even before Rangers went under it was all Celtic. It's been all Celtic since SG left. It'll be Celtic next season.

Aberdeen and Hearts are usually competing for 3rd. I haven't even checked their table for years, but it probably still is now. One of the Dundee clubs are always in last.

I'm glad the BBC has an article on this. Shows that they are aware there is football elsewhere in the world. Even then though, they are fixated on 'the top 5' leagues. Ultimately, real football is predominantly played outside of these leagues. Clubs with passion and a community feel.

Give it a year, they might just have everything stripped from them. Probably not, money talks, but it's a possibility. If the PL find them guilty on at least 10 percent of the 100+ charges, UEFA will definitely follow. So their treble in 2023 could be all for naught.
